Web-based Lookup of Sequence Data

CLC's workbenches provide direct access to web-based searches in various databases and on the Internet using your computer’s default browser. You simply right click on a sequence in the data navigation area, choose the type of search desired, and the search is initiated automatically.

These options are available:

  • A Google search function uses the accession number of the sequence which is used as search term on Google. The resulting web page is equivalent to typing the accession number of the sequence into the search field on http://www.google.com.
  • An NCBI search function searches in GenBank at NCBI using an identification number (when you view the sequence as text it is the "GI" number). Therefor, the sequence file must contain this number in order to look it up in NCBI. All sequences downloaded from NCBI have this number.
  • A UniProt search function searches in the UniProt database using the accession number. Furthermore, it checks whether the sequence was indeed downloaded from UniProt. CLC Protein Workbench also contains a much more advance UniProt Search function.
