On-line GenBank searching
The GenBank sequence database is an open access, annotated collection of all publicly available nucleotide sequences and their protein translations. This database is produced at National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) as part of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration, or INSDC.All CLC bio's workbenches include a GenBank search function (search in the NCBI Entrez database) that is accessible directly from the program through the internet.
Some features are:
- Search in GenBank's nucleotide database
- Search in GenBank's protein database
- Selection between one or more of the following search parameters:
- Title
- Organism
- Gene Location
- Modified Since
- All Fields
- Search on type of molecule (not for protein searches)
- Searches are carried out as a background processes, ensuring that other work can be done while searching.
- In order to ensure speed of work, searches are carried out in a two-step process:
- All search results are initially shown as a list of hits satisfying the chosen search criteria
- Relevant search hits can be selected and downloaded to the program using an intuitive drag-and-drop function
