Create local BLAST databases

The BLAST search algorithm requires data to be presented in a special data format. In order to BLAST your local data, you must therefore create your own local BLAST database.

Such databases for either DNA, RNA, and Protein sequence data can easily be created by click-of-the-mouse actions in three steps:

  1. Select relevant data from within the Workbench or select relevant Workbench-external database in fasta format.
  2. Select relevant criteria for the database creation
  3. Create and save the database

The creation parameters are:

  • Select input source: Selection between Workbench-internal data or an external database
  • Sequence type: Choose between nucleotide data or protein data (only relevant when using data in external files)
  • Format DB option: Enables and disables parsing of Seqld and creation of indeces
  • Input sequences: Browse to find and select the data
  • Save BLAST database: Browse to find location for saving the BLAST database when created.

After creation of the database, a local BLAST search can be performed.
